About Our
Arts in Education
Programs
Acadiana Center for the Arts is committed to making the arts an essential part of every child’s education. Through partnerships with school districts in the Acadiana region, AcA connects students with professional artists to have hands-on learning experiences that enrich classroom instruction.
Our education programs are designed to inspire creativity, strengthen academic achievement, and nurture lifelong skills like communication, collaboration, and empathy.
Teaching Artist Program
AcA’s Teaching Artist Program provides the opportunity for students to experience a broad range of art forms and innovative arts activities in the classroom.
We offer sessions in music, dance, creative writing, visual arts, storytelling, and folk arts designed and led by a local Teaching Artist.Â
Professional Learning Workshops
Professional Development Workshops demonstrate practical and proven techniques for teaching in the arts, about the arts and through the arts.
In-School Performances
In-School Performance introduces students to professional performances in dance, theater, music, puppetry, storytelling and more!
These performances are a great introduction to the performing arts and an effective, creative way to explore a variety of curricular areas.
Field Trips to Acadiana Center for the Arts
Acadiana Center for the Arts is home to five museum-quality galleries.
Our exhibitions are thoughtfully selected and rotate throughout the year to feature a wide variety of artistic mediums and artists of all career levels.
Poetry Out Loud
Poetry Out Loud is a national arts education program that encourages the study of great poetry by offering free educational materials and a dynamic competition for high school students across the country.
This program helps students master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about literary history and contemporary life.
Play It Again
With generous support from Lafayette Music, AcA is able to collect and repair old instruments no longer being used to donate them to band programs in Acadiana public schools.Â
The revival of donated instruments gives the gift of music to students who may not have the financial means to buy an instrument of their own.
Our Impact on
art
in Acadiana
At Acadiana Center for the Arts, we believe every child should have access to the arts. When students learn through the arts, they gain more than creativity. They build skills in communication, problem solving, collaboration and empathy that support success in every subject.
Through partnerships with school districts, AcA brings professional artists into classrooms and integrates the arts into daily lessons. Research shows that this approach improves academic achievement, strengthens early childhood development, and helps students stay engaged in school. It also prepares young people for long-term success in college, careers and community life.
With the arts at the heart of learning, students become curious, capable and compassionate learners, ready to thrive in school and beyond.
